Brush Your Puppy’s Teeth 2025: Vet Approved Healthy Smile 🐶🦷

🌟 Why Start Early?

Introducing teeth brushing when your puppy is young helps prevent periodontal disease later—90% of dogs show signs by age 3. Early exposure makes brushing easier, stress-free, and more accepted—ideal for lifelong dental health.

🎯 Step 1: Comfortable Introduction

Begin once your puppy has all baby teeth (around 6–8 weeks) :

  • Allow sniffing and licking of dog-safe enzymatic toothpaste—mint, poultry, or beef flavors work well.
  • Gently massage gums and teeth with your finger or soft cloth for a few seconds—reward with praise and treat.

🧰 Step 2: Choose the Right Tools

Select gentle, puppy-friendly dental supplies:

  • Silicone finger brush or ultra-soft bristle toothbrush sized for small mouths.
  • Canine enzymatic toothpaste (e.g., Virbac CET, Enzadent); avoid human toothpaste.
  • Optional dental wipes for alternate days or when brushing isn’t possible.

⏱️ Step 3: Gradual Brushing Routine

  1. Let your pup lick toothpaste off your finger again for familiarity.
  2. Gently introduce brush with pea-sized paste—focus on one tooth at a time, 5–10 secs each side.
  3. Brush each quadrant (back right/front left etc.) with gentle strokes—45° angle along gumline is ideal.
  4. Stop before your pup becomes impatient—end on a calm, positive note.
