Frequently asked questions

Products, app features and veterinary information should be easy to understand before you buy or rely on them.

Contact ASK A VET
Is ASK A VET only for dogs and cats?

No. The animal health library covers companion animals, horses, farm animals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, small mammals, aquatic animals, wildlife and exotic species. App and hardware compatibility varies, so check the relevant product or app page.

Can I use the site before I own an animal?

Yes. Use the articles and free tools to research species, housing, nutrition, behaviour, costs, time and common health needs before making a commitment.

Does the GPS Tracker require a plan?

Yes. Live GPS, mobile connectivity and safe-zone alerts require a current Tracker Plan. Coverage, update speed and accuracy vary by location, environment and selected tracking mode.

Does a Smart ID Tag replace a microchip?

No. A Smart ID Tag complements a registered microchip and visible identification. Keep microchip details current with the appropriate registry.

Does a finder need the app to scan an ID Tag?

No. A finder can scan the QR code and open the information you choose to share in a browser. NFC tapping depends on a compatible tag and phone.

Can tracker health trends diagnose illness?

No. Activity, sleep, behaviour and temperature trends are informational and are not a veterinary diagnosis. Contact a veterinarian when an animal is unwell or you are concerned.

Is the ASK A VET app free?

The app is free to download for iPhone and Android. Tracker connectivity, veterinary support and other premium features may require compatible hardware or a paid plan. Check the app for current availability and inclusions.

Who are the free calculators for?

Owner tools provide general educational guidance. Clinical calculators are designed for veterinarians, veterinary nurses and students, and do not replace professional judgement, local protocols or checking source calculations.
