The short answer

Both need a subscription, and both give live GPS tracking, safe zones with escape alerts, temperature alerts, a light and your own recorded voice on the collar. The difference is what comes with the tracker. The Ask A Vet GPS Tracker adds vets in the same app (with Premium), a touchscreen that shows alerts, sleep and bark tracking, vibration cues and a QR pet ID. Pawfit lists the Pawfit 3 for pets over 3.5 kg and for regions such as Hong Kong, Southeast Asia and South Africa.

The difference

Which one fits your pet?

Where the Ask A Vet GPS Tracker is different

Vets in the same app

With Premium you get unlimited AI Vet chat, 2 certified vet chats a month and discounted telehealth video calls, in the same app as your pet’s tracker. Pawfit’s pages do not list vet chat or telehealth.

A screen that travels with your dog

When a friend, sitter or family member takes the leash, alerts like a medication reminder or leaving a safe zone pop up on the collar with a chime, so the information travels with your dog instead of staying on your phone. It also shows daily stats at a glance, from steps to sleep. Pawfit’s pages do not list a screen on the tracker.

Sleep and bark tracking

The Ask A Vet GPS Tracker tracks steps, calories, activity and sleep, and counts barking. Pawfit’s pages list daily steps, active hours and fitness goals.

Training tones and vibration cues

Both let you play your own recorded voice on the collar. The Ask A Vet GPS Tracker adds clicker, whistle and Come Back tones for recall, mealtimes and quiet time, and vibration cues in three strengths within Bluetooth range. Pawfit’s pages do not list vibration on the tracker.

An ID that tells you when it is scanned

A finder scans the built-in QR pet ID with a phone camera, no app needed, and Lost mode alerts you when it is scanned. Pawfit’s Audio ID plays your details aloud when someone presses the tracker’s power button.

A light in any colour

Pick any colour for the collar light with the colour picker in the Ask A Vet app, solid or rainbow. Pawfit’s pages list a bright LED light you turn on and off from its app.

Where Pawfit 3 may suit you better

  • Your pet is under 4 kg

Pawfit states the Pawfit 3 suits dogs and cats over 3.5 kg, and it sells the smaller Pawfit Lite for cats and smaller dogs. The Ask A Vet GPS Tracker is for dogs and cats over 4 kg.

  • Your country is on Pawfit’s list but not ours

Pawfit lists the Pawfit 3 for the UK, Europe, North America, the Middle East, Hong Kong, Southeast Asia, South Africa and Australia. The Ask A Vet GPS Tracker works in 46 countries, so check yours before you buy.

If vets in the same app, a screen that shows alerts to whoever has the leash, or sleep tracking and vibration cues matter more to you, the Ask A Vet GPS Tracker is the better fit.

Questions

Pawfit 3 or Ask A Vet GPS Tracker: your questions

Answers about Pawfit are taken from Pawfit’s own pages, read on 27 October 2026.

Where does Pawfit work?

Pawfit’s support pages list the regions where the Pawfit 3 can be used: the UK, Europe, North America, the Middle East, Hong Kong, Southeast Asia, South Africa and Australia. The Ask A Vet GPS Tracker works in 46 countries: check yours on the tracker page.

Does Pawfit need a subscription?

Yes. Pawfit states each tracker has an embedded SIM card, so a subscription is required to send location updates, and each tracker needs its own. The Ask A Vet GPS Tracker needs a plan too: Ask A Vet’s Tracker Plan or Premium. Ask A Vet Premium also includes vet chat and discounted telehealth video calls.

How does Pawfit compare with Tractive?

Both are GPS trackers with a built-in SIM card and a subscription plan. Pawfit’s pages list recorded voice commands, an Audio ID and temperature alerts on the Pawfit 3, while Tractive’s pages list resting heart and breathing rate monitoring. We compare each of them with the Ask A Vet GPS Tracker on its own page, quoting each maker’s pages.

Does Pawfit have vet chat?

We found no vet chat or telehealth on Pawfit’s product, FAQ or support pages. With Ask A Vet Premium, the AI Vet and certified vets are in the same app as your tracker, and discounted telehealth video calls are included.

Can I use Pawfit 3 on a cat?

Pawfit states the Pawfit 3 suits dogs and cats over 3.5 kg, and it sells the smaller Pawfit Lite for cats and smaller dogs. The Ask A Vet GPS Tracker is one tracker for dogs and cats over 4 kg. For a cat under 4 kg, Pawfit’s smaller tracker is the one made for them.

Can I play my own voice on the collar?

Yes, on both. Pawfit states you can record up to five voice messages that play from the Pawfit 3’s speaker, as a recall training aid. The Ask A Vet GPS Tracker plays your own short sounds, such as your voice, plus clicker, whistle and Come Back tones, and gives vibration cues in three strengths within Bluetooth range. Cues help build routines and are not a substitute for professional training.

Why does the Ask A Vet GPS Tracker have a screen?

Dogs don’t always head out with the person who has the app. When a friend, sitter or family member takes the leash, the screen shows them important alerts directly, with a chime: a medication reminder, leaving a safe zone, a temperature warning or a lost-pet alert. It also shows daily stats at a glance, from steps to sleep. Pawfit’s pages do not list a screen on the tracker.

Can someone who finds my dog contact me?

Pawfit states anyone who presses the Pawfit 3’s power button hears its Audio ID, with your pet’s name and the contact details you choose, even outside network coverage. The Ask A Vet GPS Tracker has a built-in QR pet ID: a finder scans it with a phone camera, no app needed, and Lost mode alerts you when it is scanned. Either way, keep your dog microchipped and wearing an ID tag.

How do I switch from Pawfit?

Set up the Ask A Vet GPS Tracker in the Ask A Vet app: it pairs over Bluetooth, then you add your dog and choose a plan. Your Pawfit Safety Zones and history do not move across, so draw your safe zones again. Cancel your Pawfit plan with Pawfit.
