PetPace 3.0 vs Ask A Vet GPS Tracker

A health monitoring collar and a GPS tracker, both with their own mobile connection, side by side.

PetPace facts checked

The short answer

Both need a subscription, and both give live GPS, safe zone alerts, activity and sleep, and vets in the app, for dogs and cats. The difference is focus. PetPace 3.0 is a health monitoring collar: it measures temperature, pulse, HRV and respiration, and its subscription includes 24/7 vet chat and video. The Ask A Vet GPS Tracker adds a touchscreen that shows alerts, training and custom sounds, a light in any colour and a QR pet ID. PetPace states it is available in the US, Canada and Europe.

The difference

Which one fits your pet?

Where the Ask A Vet GPS Tracker is different

A screen that travels with your pet

When a friend, sitter or family member takes the leash, alerts like a medication reminder or leaving a safe zone pop up on the collar, so the information travels with your pet instead of staying on your phone. PetPace’s specifications list one button and one LED, and no screen.

Training sounds on the collar

Play a clicker, whistle or Come Back tone on the collar from the app, or a vibration cue nearby, and pair it with recall, mealtimes and quiet time. PetPace’s pages do not list sounds or vibration on the collar.

Make it yours

Pick any colour for the collar light with the colour picker, and add your own short sounds, such as your voice, to play on the collar from the Ask A Vet app. PetPace’s collar has one LED, which shows charging and set-up status.

An ID whoever finds your pet can scan

The Ask A Vet GPS Tracker has a built-in QR pet ID. A finder scans it with a phone camera, no app needed, and Lost mode alerts you when it is scanned. PetPace’s pages do not list a finder ID.

Works in 46 countries

The Ask A Vet GPS Tracker works in 46 countries across North America, Europe and Asia-Pacific, Australia, New Zealand and Japan among them. PetPace states its collar is currently available in the US, Canada and Europe.

Where PetPace 3.0 may suit you better

  • You want vital signs

PetPace 3.0 measures temperature, pulse, HRV, respiration and a pain indicator, and alerts you when they change from your pet’s own normal. The Ask A Vet GPS Tracker does not measure vital signs.

  • You want unlimited vet chat and video

PetPace states its subscription includes unlimited 24/7 chat and video with licensed vets. Ask A Vet Premium includes unlimited AI Vet chat, 2 certified vet chats a month and discounted telehealth video calls.

  • You are managing epilepsy or a long-term condition

PetPace’s app has seizure tracking built in, its pages list epilepsy and pregnancy programs, and your own vet can view the collar’s data on the PetPace Veterinarian Platform. The Ask A Vet GPS Tracker does not track seizures.

If a screen that shows alerts to whoever has the leash, training and custom sounds, a QR pet ID or coverage beyond the US, Canada and Europe matter more to you, the Ask A Vet GPS Tracker is the better fit.

Questions

PetPace 3.0 or Ask A Vet GPS Tracker: your questions

Answers about PetPace are taken from PetPace’s own pages, read on 27 October 2026.

Where does PetPace work?

PetPace states its collar is currently available in the US, Canada and Europe. The Ask A Vet GPS Tracker works in 46 countries: check yours on the tracker page.

Does PetPace need a subscription?

Yes. PetPace sells the collar with a 1, 2 or 3 year subscription that includes cellular data and GPS services, unlimited 24/7 vet access and its health monitoring. The Ask A Vet GPS Tracker needs Ask A Vet’s Tracker Plan or Premium, and Premium adds vet chat and discounted telehealth video calls.

Do both have vets in the app?

Yes, and they cover different things. PetPace’s pages list unlimited 24/7 chat and video with licensed vets in its subscription, for general guidance rather than diagnosis, and vets can view the collar’s data with your permission. Ask A Vet Premium includes unlimited AI Vet chat, 2 certified vet chats a month and discounted telehealth video calls.

Does the Ask A Vet GPS Tracker measure vital signs like PetPace?

No. PetPace states its collar measures temperature, pulse, HRV and respiration and gives a pain score, with the full AI insights unlocking over the first 12 weeks. The Ask A Vet GPS Tracker tracks activity, sleep and barking, and alerts you to hot or cold conditions around the collar, not body temperature. With Premium you can ask a vet about anything you see.

Does PetPace work for cats?

Yes. PetPace states its collar is designed for both dogs and cats, and sells its small size as a cat collar. The Ask A Vet GPS Tracker is one tracker for dogs and cats over 4 kg.

Does PetPace have a screen?

PetPace’s specifications list one button and one LED, which shows charging and set-up status; they do not list a screen. The Ask A Vet GPS Tracker has a colour touchscreen: when a friend, sitter or family member takes the leash, a medication reminder, leaving a safe zone, a temperature warning or a lost-pet alert pops up on it with a chime. It also shows daily stats at a glance, from steps to sleep.

Can I use the tracker for training?

The Ask A Vet GPS Tracker plays training tones on the collar from the Ask A Vet app, such as a clicker, a whistle and Come Back, and gives vibration cues in three strengths within Bluetooth range. Pair them with routines like recall, mealtimes and quiet time; cues help build routines and are not a substitute for professional training. PetPace’s pages do not list sounds, vibration or training cues on the collar.

Can someone who finds my pet contact me?

The Ask A Vet GPS Tracker has a built-in QR pet ID: a finder scans it with a phone camera, no app needed, and Lost mode alerts you when it is scanned. PetPace’s pages do not list a finder ID on the collar. Either way, keep your pet microchipped and wearing an ID tag.

How do I switch from PetPace?

Set up the Ask A Vet GPS Tracker in the Ask A Vet app: it pairs over Bluetooth, then you add your pet and choose a plan. Your PetPace data and Safe Zone do not move across, so draw your safe zones again. Cancel your PetPace subscription with PetPace.
